10 Common Registration Mistakes to Avoid
- Name mismatch: Name must match Class 10 marksheet exactly. Even one spelling difference can cause problems during verification.
- Wrong category: OBC candidates must have an OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate. Regular OBC certificate is not accepted.
- Blurry documents: Upload clear, readable scans. Rejected documents delay your application.
- Wrong date of birth: Use DOB from Class 10 marksheet, not Aadhaar (if they differ).
- Waiting until the last day: Server crashes are common on the last day. Register at least 3–5 days before the deadline.
- Not saving confirmation: Download and save the confirmation page immediately. You cannot access it later if the portal closes.
- Wrong state of eligibility: This determines your home state for JoSAA. Choose the state where you are passing/passed Class 12.
- Not checking correction window dates: NTA gives a brief window to fix errors. Miss it and your mistakes are permanent.
- Forgetting password: Write down your application number and password. Store in a safe place.
- Not registering for Session 2: Even if you appeared in Session 1, you must separately register for Session 2 if you want to improve your score.
Registration process based on NTA's JEE Main 2025 information bulletin. NTA may modify the process for 2026 — always check the official information bulletin at jeemain.nta.ac.in for the latest requirements. Last updated: February 2026.

What is the JEE Main 2026 registration fee?
For General/OBC/EWS male candidates: ₹1,000 (for one paper) or ₹2,000 (for both Paper 1 + Paper 2). For SC/ST/PwD/Transgender: ₹500 (one paper) or ₹1,000 (both). For female candidates (all categories): ₹500 (one paper) or ₹1,000 (both). Payment can be made via UPI, debit card, credit card, net banking, or Paytm.
What documents are needed for JEE Main registration?
Required documents: (1) Class 10 marksheet (for date of birth verification), (2) Class 12 marksheet (if passed; or school leaving certificate if appearing), (3) Aadhaar card, (4) Recent passport-size photograph (white background, 10KB–200KB, JPG/JPEG), (5) Scanned signature (4KB–30KB, JPG/JPEG), (6) Category certificate (if applicable — OBC-NCL/SC/ST/EWS), (7) PwD certificate (if applicable).
Can I edit my JEE Main application after submission?
Yes, but only during the NTA-specified correction window. NTA opens a correction period (usually 3–5 days) after registration closes. You can change: personal details, academic details, photograph, signature, exam city preferences, and paper choice. You CANNOT change: application number, date of birth (in most cases), or category. Make corrections carefully — this is your last chance.
How many attempts are allowed for JEE Main?
JEE Main 2026 has 2 sessions (January and April). You can appear in either or both sessions. The better score of the two is considered for ranking. There is no limit on the number of consecutive years — you can appear for 3 years after passing Class 12 (year of passing + 2 additional years). So a 2024 pass-out can appear in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
What if I have not passed Class 12 yet?
You can still register. Select 'Appearing in 2026' as your qualifying exam status. You will need to upload your Class 12 admit card or school bonafide certificate instead of a marksheet. Your JEE Main result will be provisional until your Class 12 results are declared. You must have passed Class 12 with the required subjects before JoSAA counselling.
Can I change my exam city after registration?
Yes, during the correction window. NTA allows you to choose up to 4 exam city preferences. NTA tries to allot the first preference but may allot any of the 4 based on seat availability. Choose cities you can easily travel to. If exam centres in your city are full, NTA may allot a nearby city — this is beyond your control.
