OMR Sheet — How to Fill Correctly
NEET uses OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheets scanned by machines. Incorrect filling = lost marks.
| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| Use black/blue ballpoint pen only | Don't use gel pen, pencil, or sketch pen |
| Fill the bubble completely and darkly | Don't make light or partial marks |
| Mark answers on question paper first, then transfer to OMR | Don't rush to fill OMR without double-checking |
| Fill personal details (name, roll number) carefully | Don't leave personal details blank |
| Keep OMR sheet clean and unfolded | Don't fold, crumple, or make stray marks on OMR |
| Reserve last 30 minutes for OMR transfer | Don't start OMR transfer in the last 5 minutes |
Critical tip: Mark all 200 answers on the question paper first. Then transfer to the OMR sheet in the last 30–40 minutes. This gives you time to double-check and avoids the panic of running out of time.

Exam Centre Preparation Tips
- Visit the centre a day before. Locate the exact building, entry gate, and your seating area if possible.
- Plan your travel. Account for traffic. Reach by 12:30 PM — 30 minutes before reporting time.
- Eat a light lunch before leaving. The exam is 2:00–5:20 PM — you will need energy but not a heavy stomach.
- Carry a light jacket — AC exam halls can be cold. You cannot adjust the temperature.
- Use the washroom before entering. Bathroom breaks during the exam waste valuable time and require invigilator escort.

When will NEET 2026 admit card be released?
NEET admit cards are typically released 15–20 days before the exam. For NEET 2026 (expected in May): admit card release is expected in late April or early May. NTA sends SMS and email notifications. Check neet.nta.nic.in regularly from 3 weeks before the exam date.
How to download NEET 2026 admit card?
Steps: (1) Visit neet.nta.nic.in, (2) Click 'Download Admit Card', (3) Login with Application Number + Date of Birth or Password, (4) Admit card PDF opens, (5) Download and print 3 colour copies on A4 paper. One copy is collected at the exam centre, so carry extras.
Is NEET conducted on paper or computer?
NEET is conducted in pen-and-paper (OMR) mode — NOT on computer. You will receive a question paper booklet and a separate OMR answer sheet. You must darken the correct bubble using a black/blue ballpoint pen. This is different from JEE Main which is computer-based. Practise filling OMR sheets before the exam.
What pen should I use for NEET OMR sheet?
Use a black or blue ballpoint pen ONLY. Do NOT use gel pen, sketch pen, or pencil — OMR scanners may not read them. Carry 2–3 extra pens as backup. The pen must make a dark, solid mark that fills the bubble completely. Light or partial marks may not be detected by the scanner.
Can I change my answer on the NEET OMR sheet?
No. Once you darken a bubble on the OMR sheet, it CANNOT be changed. There is no erasing or overwriting. If you make a mistake, that answer is final. This is why you should first mark answers on the question paper, then transfer to OMR in the last 30 minutes. Double-check before darkening each bubble.
What happens if my exam centre is in a different city?
NTA allots centres based on your city preferences and seat availability. If your allotted centre is in a different city: (1) you cannot request a change at this stage, (2) plan travel and accommodation well in advance, (3) visit the centre a day before to confirm the location, (4) book accommodation close to the centre. Some students travel 50–100 km — plan accordingly.
