Quick revision notes for Algebra — CBSE Class 12 Applied Mathematics. Key concepts, formulas, and definitions for last-minute revision.
Key Topics to Revise
Matrices - Basic Concepts and Types
- A matrix is a rectangular array of numbers arranged in rows and columns
- Matrix A of order m×n has m rows and n columns, written as A = [aij]
- Element aij represents the element in ith row and jth column
Matrix Operations - Addition, Subtraction, and Scalar Multiplication
- Matrices can be added/subtracted only if they have the same order
- Addition/subtraction is performed element-wise
- Scalar multiplication involves multiplying each element by the scalar
Matrix Multiplication
- Matrix multiplication AB is possible only if columns in A = rows in B
- If A is m×n and B is n×p, then AB is m×p
- Element (AB)ij = sum of products of ith row of A with jth column of B
Special Matrices - Transpose, Symmetric, and Skew-Symmetric
- Transpose A' is obtained by interchanging rows and columns of A
- If A is m×n, then A' is n×m
- A matrix A is symmetric if A' = A (only for square matrices)
