Key Topics to Revise
Population, Sample, and Sampling Methods
- Population is the complete group of individuals or objects we want to study
- Sample is a subset of the population used to make inferences about the entire population
- Sample size (n) is always smaller than population size (N)
Parameters vs Statistics and Central Limit Theorem
- Parameters describe populations (denoted by Greek letters)
- Statistics describe samples (denoted by English letters)
- Central Limit Theorem states that sampling distribution approaches normal distribution as sample size increases
Hypothesis Testing Framework
- Null Hypothesis (H₀) assumes no difference or no effect
- Alternative Hypothesis (H₁) states there is a difference or effect
- H₀ uses equality signs (=, ≥, ≤)
One Sample t-Test
- Used when comparing sample mean to known population mean
- Requires normally distributed population with unknown variance
- Test statistic follows t-distribution
