Understanding Length Measurement
- Length can be measured as height, width, depth, breadth - all refer to length measurement
- We use different words like tall, wide, short, and long in daily life, but they all measure length
- Length is measured using standard units to get accurate results
Metre (m) - The Bigger Unit
- Metre is used to measure longer distances and bigger objects
- 1 metre can be divided into half metre (1/2 m) and quarter metre (1/4 m)
- 1 m = 1/2 m + 1/2 m (two halves make one whole)
Centimetre (cm) - The Smaller Unit
- Centimetre is used to measure smaller objects accurately
- A metre scale is divided into 100 equal parts
- Each small part is called 1 centimetre (1 cm)
Converting Between Metres and Centimetres
- To convert metres to centimetres: multiply by 100
- To convert centimetres to metres: divide by 100
- Both measurements represent the same length, just different units
