Basic Geometric Elements
- A point determines a precise location but has no length, breadth, or height
- Points are denoted by capital letters like A, B, C, etc.
- A line segment is the shortest path between two points with definite endpoints
Angles - Formation and Naming
- An angle is formed by two rays having a common starting point called the vertex
- The two rays forming an angle are called the arms of the angle
- Angles can be named using three points: vertex in the middle (∠ABC where B is vertex)
Comparing and Measuring Angles
- Angles can be compared by superimposition - placing one over the other
- When superimposing, vertices must overlap and arms must align
- Equal angles have the same amount of rotation
Types of Angles
- Right Angle: Exactly 90°, looks like an 'L' shape
- Straight Angle: Exactly 180°, arms form a straight line
- Acute Angle: Less than 90° but greater than 0°
