Sources of Light
- The Sun is the main source of natural light on Earth
- Natural sources: Sun, stars, lightning, fire, fireflies, and other luminous animals
- Artificial sources: candles, oil lamps, electric bulbs, LED lights, tube lights
Light Travels in Straight Lines
- Light travels in straight lines - this is called rectilinear propagation of light
- We can see objects only when light from them reaches our eyes in straight lines

Light and Materials

- Translucent materials allow light to pass partially (frosted glass, tracing paper)

- Shadows form when opaque objects block light from reaching a surface
- Three things needed for shadow: light source, opaque object, and screen
- Shadow size depends on the distance between object, light source, and screen
