Key Topics to Revise

1

10.1 Spherical Mirrors - Types and Identification

  • Spherical mirrors are curved mirrors shaped like a part of a hollow glass sphere
  • Concave mirror: reflecting surface curves inwards (like inner side of a spoon)
  • Convex mirror: reflecting surface curves outwards (like outer side of a spoon)
2

10.2 Image Formation by Spherical Mirrors

  • Concave mirror images: When object is close - erect and enlarged; When object is far - inverted and size varies
  • Convex mirror images: Always erect and diminished (smaller than object)
  • Image size in convex mirror decreases slightly as object moves away
3

10.3 Laws of Reflection

  • First Law: Angle of incidence (i) equals angle of reflection (r)
  • Second Law: Incident ray, normal, and reflected ray all lie in the same plane
  • Laws apply to all mirrors - plane, concave, and convex
4

10.4 Lenses - Types and Properties

  • Lens: transparent material (glass/plastic) with curved surfaces
  • Convex lens: thicker at middle, thinner at edges (converging lens)
  • Concave lens: thicker at edges, thinner at middle (diverging lens)
