Basic Concepts and Variables
- Statistics comes from Latin word 'Status' meaning political state
- Used in singular sense: refers to the subject as a branch of knowledge
- Used in plural sense: refers to numerical data collected systematically
Frequency and Frequency Distribution
- Frequency shows how many times a particular value appears in data
- Tally marks are used to count frequencies systematically
- Every fifth tally mark crosses the first four to form bundles of five
Class Intervals and Class Limits
- Class intervals group data into ranges for easier analysis
- Two types: Inclusive (1-10, 11-20) and Exclusive (10-20, 20-30)
- Lower class limit is the smaller number, upper class limit is the larger number
Cumulative Frequency
- Cumulative frequency is sum of all frequencies up to and including that class
- Can be presented as 'less than' cumulative frequency table
- Each cumulative frequency includes the current class frequency plus all previous
