Refraction of Light - Basic Concepts

  • Refraction is the bending of light when it passes from one transparent medium to another
  • Light travels in straight lines in a homogeneous medium but bends at the interface of two different media
  • The bending occurs because light travels at different speeds in different media

Laws of Refraction

  • First Law: The incident ray, refracted ray, and normal to the surface at the point of incidence all lie in the same plane
