Key Topics to Revise

1

Nature of Light and Ray Optics

  • Light is electromagnetic radiation with dual nature (wave and particle)
  • Speed of light in vacuum: c = 3×10⁸ m/s
  • Ray optics assumes light travels in straight lines in homogeneous medium
2

Reflection - Plane and Spherical Mirrors

  • Laws of reflection: (1) Incident, reflected rays and normal are coplanar (2) i = r
  • Plane mirror: virtual, same size, laterally inverted image
  • Multiple images in inclined mirrors: N = 360°/θ - 1 (conditions apply)
3

Refraction and Total Internal Reflection

  • Snell's law: n₁sinθ₁ = n₂sinθ₂
  • Light bends toward normal when entering denser medium
  • Real depth/Apparent depth = refractive index (for plane surfaces)
4

Lenses and Lens Formula

  • Convex lenses converge light, concave lenses diverge light
  • Same mirror formula applies to lenses: 1/f = 1/v + 1/u
  • Lens maker's formula: 1/f = (n-1)(1/R₁ - 1/R₂)
