Derivative of Composite Functions (Chain Rule)
- Chain rule is used when we have a function within another function (composite functions)
- If y = f(u) and u = g(x), then dy/dx = (dy/du) × (du/dx)
- Identify the outer function and inner function correctly
Derivative of Inverse Functions
- Used to find rate of change of demand with respect to price
- If y = f(x) and x = f⁻¹(y), then dx/dy = 1/(dy/dx)
- The original function must be one-one and onto
Logarithmic Differentiation

- Take natural log of both sides first
Implicit Differentiation
