Frequently Asked Questions

How is NEET rank calculated from marks?

NEET rank is based on your score out of 720, not percentile. NTA ranks candidates in descending order of marks. If two candidates have the same marks, tie-breaking criteria include: higher marks in Biology, then Chemistry, then Physics, and then fewer incorrect answers.

The expected NEET 2026 cutoff for MBBS (General category) is around 137 marks (50th percentile). For SC/ST/OBC, the cutoff is 107 marks (40th percentile). However, to get admission in a good government medical college, you typically need 600+ marks.

For AIIMS Delhi MBBS admission, you typically need 710+ marks out of 720 (rank under 50). The cutoff varies each year based on difficulty and competition. In recent years, the cutoff has been around 710-715 marks.

With 550 marks in NEET, your rank would be approximately 40,000-60,000. In General category, getting a government medical college is difficult at this rank, but possible in home state quota for some states. SC/ST/OBC candidates have better chances at this score.

Approximately 10-12 lakh students qualify NEET each year (score above cutoff). However, only about 1 lakh MBBS seats are available across India. Around 24 lakh students register for NEET annually.

Yes, NEET rank is the All India Rank (AIR) based on your score. Unlike JEE Main which uses percentile, NEET uses raw marks to determine rank. The rank is the same regardless of category — category-wise cutoffs only matter during counselling.
