Key Topics to Revise

1

Electric Current and Circuit

  • Electric current is the flow of electric charges through a conductor
  • Current flows from positive terminal to negative terminal of a battery (conventional direction)
  • Actual electron flow is opposite to conventional current direction
2

Electric Potential and Potential Difference

  • Potential difference creates the 'electric pressure' that drives current flow
  • Similar to water flowing due to height difference, charges flow due to potential difference
  • Potential difference (V) = Work done (W) / Charge (Q)
3

Ohm's Law and Resistance

  • Ohm's Law: V ∝ I, or V = IR (at constant temperature)
  • Resistance (R) opposes the flow of current through a conductor
  • R = V/I, where resistance is measured in ohms (Ω)
4

Factors Affecting Resistance

  • Resistance depends on length (l), area of cross-section (A), and material
  • R ∝ l (longer wire has more resistance)
  • R ∝ 1/A (thicker wire has less resistance)
