Common Mistakes to Avoid

A cut made on folded paper appears only at the location where it was physically made, not on every layer.

The unfolded sheet is always perfectly symmetric regardless of where the cut was made on the folded paper.

A diagonal fold (corner to corner) produces the same symmetry pattern as a straight (vertical or horizontal) fold.
