Formula Sheet — Experiments

Important formulas and equations from Experiments for JEE Advanced Physics.

Formulas — Experiments

3.1 Vernier Callipers

LC = VC = 1 MSD − 1 VSD = (1 MSD) / n
Total Reading = N + (n × LC)
Actual Length = Observed Length − Zero Error
Positive Zero Error = N + x × LC

3.2 Screw Gauge

LC = Pitch / (Number of circular scale divisions)
Total Reading = N + n × LC
Absolute Reading = Measured Reading − Zero Error

3.3 Simple Pendulum — Determination of g

T = 2π √(L/g)
g = 4π²L / T²
T² = (4π²/g) × L → slope of T² vs L graph = 4π²/g
(Δg/g) × 100 = (ΔL/L + 2ΔT/T) × 100

3.4 Young's Modulus by Searle's Method

Y = (MgL) / (πr²l) = (FL) / (Al)
Δl = (L / πr²Y) × w → slope of Δl vs Δw graph = L / πr²Y
(ΔY/Y) × 100 = (ΔL/L + Δl/l + 2Δr/r) × 100
