Parts of a Circle and Central Angles

  • A circle can be divided into parts using central angles at the center
  • To mark 1/n of a circle, the central angle = 360°/n
  • An angle made at any point on the circle by the same arc is half the central angle

Fundamental Angle-Arc Relationship

  • Angle at circumference = (1/2) × Central angle of the same arc
  • This relationship holds for all arcs with central angle ≤ 180°
  • For arcs with central angle > 180°, the formula still applies but requires careful identification of the arc

  • Any angle inscribed in a semicircle is always 90°
  • This is a special case of the general angle-arc relationship
