What to Focus On

  • A quadrilateral has 4 sides, 4 vertices, and 2 diagonals
  • Sum of interior angles = 360°
  • Opposite sides and angles are across from each other

  • Classification is based on parallel sides and equal sides/angles
  • Square is the most specific type - it's also a rectangle, rhombus, and parallelogram
  • Every rectangle and rhombus is a parallelogram

  • Opposite sides and angles are always equal in parallelograms
  • Diagonals bisect each other (cut each other into equal parts)
  • Adjacent angles are supplementary (add up to 180°)

Common Mistakes to Avoid

A quadrilateral with one pair of equal opposite sides is always a parallelogram

All rectangles are squares and all squares are rectangles mean the same thing

In a rhombus, diagonals are always equal in length

Memory Tips
