Force of Gravitation and Newton's Law
- All objects in the universe attract each other with gravitational force
- Gravitational force is always attractive, never repulsive
- The force depends on masses of objects and distance between them
Acceleration Due to Gravity
- All objects fall with same acceleration regardless of mass
- Acceleration due to gravity g = GM/R² (independent of falling object's mass)
- Average value of g on Earth = 9.8 m/s²
Motion Under Gravity
- Objects under gravity follow uniformly accelerated motion
- All kinematic equations apply with a = g
- For upward motion, g is taken as negative (-9.8 m/s²)
Mass and Weight
- Mass is quantity of matter in a body, remains constant everywhere
- Weight is gravitational force on a body, varies with location
- Mass is measured in kg, weight is measured in Newtons
